CANYONLANDS
A series of imagined landscapes for our national parks and iconic destinations.

"Sometimes making art becomes a process of reduction down to essential elements. Whatever does not contribute to the whole must be discarded leaving only the essence of a place."

The idea is to work from memory and evoke the mood of a moment and the unique character of the landscape. I imagine what it felt like to stand in each place and then proceed to build an abstract composition that progressively evolves into a representation of a place. I want the view to seem specific without actually depicting a a particular view.
